VPI cement
VPI cement is produced at the Kunda plant and is suitable for use in concrete, mortar, plaster, and other cement-based construction products.
It is a Portland composite cement with the standard designation
CEM II/B-M (P-L) 42.5 R, where part of the clinker is replaced with volcanic material VPI (Volcanic Pozzolan Iceland) from Iceland.
This natural pozzolan allows for the reduction of cement's carbon footprint by approximately 20% compared to conventional cement.
VPI material is extracted from Heidelberg Materials quarries in Iceland and added during the grinding process at the Kunda plant.
Main advantages:
- Lower CO₂ footprint due to a reduced proportion of clinker
- Natural pozzolan (VPI) – environmentally friendly raw material
- Wide range of use in concrete, mortar, and plaster
An environmental product declaration (EPD) on the environmental impact of VPI cement will be published soon.
